Stain Guide

Rinse off blood stains immediately with cold water. More stubborn and older stains are best rubbed thoroughly with soapy water and soaked in salt water.

Wash fresh stains as normal. For older cola stains, dissolve some mild detergent in mineral water and use to pre-treat the stain.

Rinse in lukewarm water and rub the stain with spirit, spirit of wine or eau de Cologne (R). Only dab delicate materials. Then wash as normal.

Allow the marks to soak in a diluted vinegar solution for several hours. Subsequent washing will remove the vinegar smell.

Wash out egg white and egg yolk stains immediately with cold water. Under no circumstances use hot water.

Dab stain with spirit and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Treat with bile soap or washing up liquid before washing. Rub more stubborn stains with alcohol or spirit of wine. 

Wet the stain with mineral water and wash out immediately with lukewarm water. For older stains, use bile or curd soap. Place in the sun for subsequent bleaching.

Rubbing under hot water may be sufficient and then wash with a soap-based detergent. If the stain is very stubborn, it may be pre-treated with bile soap or lemon juice. Spray with stain remover before washing and add bleaching salt to the washing powder.

Rinse with lukewarm water and then wash with suds.

Apply hot water to the stain and then rinse with cold water.

Place garment in the deep freeze until the chewing gum is hard. Then break and carefully scrape off the chewing gum using a blade, for example.  You can also place ice cubes on the stain.

Iron the material several times between layers of blotting paper (or other absorbent paper). Subsequently treat the remaining wax stains with spirit.

Treat stain in warm soapy water or use liquid detergent before washing.

Apply lemon juice or alcohol from the pharmacist (80-90%) to the stain. The lemon juice or alcohol is best rubbed into the fabric with a cloth, cleaning away the dissolved substances with a paper towel (e.g. kitchen roll).

Dab the stains with a cloth or wad of cotton wool soaked in alcohol. Bleaching salt or colour run remover can be used in a warm wash.

Treat the stain with lemon juice and salt. Then place in the sun. Leave for several hours to work and then wash out.

Heavily salt the stain. (Use potato flour for velvet materials and silk) and then apply lemon juice to the stain just before washing. Pre-treat stubborn stains with spirit of wine or leave to soak overnight in buttermilk.

Soak the garment in milk and then wash in warm suds.

Rub the spinach stain with one or several slices of potato and then rinse well.

Wash with lukewarm water. Treat stubborn stains subsequently with bile soap.

Generously sprinkle ink stains with salt and simply shake off after the salt has taken effect. Treat subsequently with vinegar and spirit and then wash out the material thoroughly.

Rub a little milk into older stains and then leave to dry.  Try to remove with soapsuds when washing.

Sprinkle the stain generously with salt and then wash out with hot water.
